The
legendary St. Augustine Marching 100 is a all-male high school marching
band located in New Orleans, LA. More than just a marching band, the
Marching 100 symbolizes leadership, pride and achievement within the
New Orleans African-American community. Their grueling two-hour practices
and two-parades-a-day Mardi Gras schedule, instills discipline and
commitment within the young men. Marching band provides an alternative
to the streets and sets the boys on a path to becoming successful
adults. Many St. Augustine members go on to be successful musicians,
band directors and leaders within the community. During Mardi Gras,
the band members experience a rockstar-like status as their great
showmanship and loud, rhymic music makes them the favorites among
parade-goers. The tradition of the St. Augustine Marching 100 continues
to this day.
