Amber
Shields’ photography documents the unique culture found in the
southern part of the United States. Raised in Texas and now living
in New York, she has become acutely aware of the characteristics that
make the South different from anywhere else. Guided partly by nostalgia
and partly by social commentary, her photographs comment on contemporary
life in the South. She received a BA in photojournalism from Loyola
University in New Orleans, LA and a MFA in fine art photography from
San Jose State University in San Jose, CA. Her Cadence Series was
chosen for the 2005 Art and Commerce Festival of Emerging Photographers
and published in Topic magazine. She currently lives in Brooklyn,
NY.
